Heng Samrin urges opposition to negotiate, join parliament
National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin has urged the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) to negotiate with the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), and join the government’s parliamentary sessions. The appeal was made after the National Assembly kicked off its session on Thursday to elect the members of the National Assembly’s nine commissions. The CNRP’s leaders said recently that their lawmakers will not attend any National Assembly session if their demand for a probe into the election irregularities are not met. “We haven’t yet made any decisions concerning the seats of the Cambodia National Rescue Party,” Samrin said after the session. “They boycott the parliamentary sessions and it’s within their rights,” he said, adding that we will find a way to persuade them to join the session, however if they still boycott, we will think about it at a later time. …
